Deputies Investigate Body Found on 25A

Miami County deputies were dispatched on the report of a body lying beside the southbound roadway of N. County Road 25A just south of the U.V.M.C. campus on 11/21/2017 at 1:29 A.M. The complainant had been a passing motorist. Deputies arrived a short while later and found a male lying face down beside the road. The male was deceased and it is believed he had not been there long. Detectives were summoned and the scene was processed. There was no evidence of trauma or wounds on the body other than some bleeding on the subjects face which would be consistent with falling forward. There was also no evidence that the subject had been struck by a vehicle. The Miami County Coroner had the remains transported to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office for autopsy.

Detectives learned the identification of the deceased to be Kenneth B. Stem, age 60, of Piqua. The investigation further showed that Mr. Stem had been dropped off at the U.V.M.C. Behavioral Health Unit around 3:00 P.M. on 11/20/2017. It was also learned that Mr. Stem left the Behavioral Health Unit sometime around 6:00 P.M. He had not been admitted to the hospital. Mr. Stem's whereabouts after 6:00 P.M. are unknown at this time.

Detectives received preliminary autopsy results this morning showing Mr. Stem had suffered a major cardiac event which was likely the cause of death pending the results of toxicology. Results of the toxicology are not expected for 6 to 8 weeks.
